What's the difference between a charge card and a credit card?
Well, with a charge card you generally have no fixed
spending/credit limit, but you do have to pay off the full amount
each month. If you don't the interest rates are punitive.
Charge cards are particularly useful if you travel a lot because
they are generally accepted in hotels and airports and may also have
some additional benefits for travellers (Diner's Club for instance
gives you access to some airport business lounges). And of
course, if you are overseas, it may not be possible for a shop or
restaurant to call up your card issuer to check credit limits etc.
Charge Cards don't offer balance transfers but most do have
loyalty schemes where you can earn points for travel, wine and
luxury goods. And again, if you use a charge card for your
business expenses, you will benefit from getting some great free
gifts!
